Hydro Excavation Services
When it comes to fixing underground plumbing issues, hydro excavation is an effective, non-invasive solution. Homeowners often associate the word excavation with a costly and messy project that will leave their landscaping ruined. With hydro excavation, this isn’t the case – hydro excavation is a minimally invasive plumbing method that’s used to remove dirt and debris in and around plumbing structures.
At Art Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electric we use the latest plumbing and excavation technologies to help homeowners and property owners in South Florida.
How Does Hydro Excavation Work?
First, high-pressure water is blasted between 1,000 and 4,500 psi to cut through and soften the ground. Next, high-pressure vacuuming effectively removes the mud slurry, exposing the underground plumbing network. All the debris and mud are extracted into a tank, which is stored and used after the repair.
With the plumbing network exposed, our plumbers can address the issue. Whether this is a broken pipe or a blockage, access is granted to allow for effective drain clearing or drain repair,
Finally, the dirt removed earlier in the process (stored in the tank) is released back over the plumbing system to restore the area to its former glory, leaving your landscaping in a safe and presentable condition.
At Art Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electric, we use hydro excavation for full excavation projects, and smaller projects known as daylighting. Daylighting is when small patches of ground are uncovered to locate plumbing utilities that aren’t otherwise accessible. Your underground pipes are essentially exposed to daylight, where the name comes from.
When completing the vacuum stage, our experienced plumbers will decide between two vacuum types to remove the mud slurry:
1) Positive Displacement Blowers
Positive displacement blowers release air into a pipe to move materials. As the rotors revolve to pull air to the inlet pipe, air is forced into the area between the rotors, and into the outlet pipe. Air is effectively displaced from one end to another, causing a strong vacuum effect. Positive displacement blowers can be slower than fan systems but are designed to function at substantial depths.
2) Fan Systems
Fan systems are the go-to for most shallower plumbing issues. They are lighter, easy to operate, and less costly than positive displacement blowers. Fan systems get the job done fast and suit daylighting applications well (a process in which underground pipes are exposed to daylight using a hydrovac).
