Backfilling
Backfilling occurs after we hydro excavate, bringing in clean fill, sand, or crushed rock, and sometimes even flowable concrete should the job require it.
Skilled and knowledgeable professionals at Art Rooter, Sewer & Drain Cleaning utilize the newest backfill technologies and equipment to maximize compaction and to do it in the most efficient way possible.
What Are Some Popular Backfilling Methods?
There are multiple backfilling methods employed by professionals, but at Art Rooter, Sewer & Drain Cleaning, the most common ones we use are compacting and filling.
Compacting In Trenches
When compacting in trenches, we use a compressor that has a long three or four-inch hose with a large hopper on it filled with rocks. This then shoots the rocks at approximately 65 MPH into the tunnel.
Flowable Fill
Flowable fill or filling is another common backfilling method. In this process, a cement mixture is used to fill the space and level the foundation or trench. This is typically delivered to the job site by way of a cement truck. We sometimes use this to fill tunnels.
One of the disadvantages of the flowable fill method is the ability to control the liquidity of the cement material. The experienced team at Art Rooter, Sewer & Drain Cleaning use careful and thoughtful practices to prevent the cement mixture from flowing into unwanted areas of the trench or foundation.
