One of the most interesting things about North Bay Village is that most of the area was completely underwater before 1940. In fact, the only dry land was Broadcast Key, a small island where WIOD began broadcasting in 1926. In 1940, careful dredging and bulk-heading efforts created North Bay Island. Throughout the 1940s, these efforts continued finally creating Harbor and Treasure Islands, though they were not annexed by North Bay Village for several years.

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s North Bay Village became the premiere destination for Hollywood stars like Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra. In fact, Dean Martin even opened up his own nightclub here in the late 1960s! Since the 1970s, North Bay Village turned into the more residential community we know and love today.
