Bathroom Lighting Installation Guide

Reading Time: 2 minutes

To have a bathroom you love takes careful planning and implementation. After all, bathrooms are one of the first things guests see when they enter your home. There’s a lot that goes into creating the perfect bathroom, including how you light it.

Lighting plays an important role in creating the perfect atmosphere for relaxation and privacy during your time in your bathroom. Well-lit bathrooms are welcoming as well as cozy so it’s essential to make sure you have the right kind of lights installed before you finish off your bathroom renovation.

Some homeowners can install lighting in their bathroom; however, you need to be able to do it safely. Here is your guide on how to install bathroom lighting.

Step 1: Turn Off Power

Before you begin any work on your bathroom lighting, the first step is to turn off the power to the area. Locate your breaker box and find the breaker that controls the power to your bathroom. Once you have found the right breaker, flip it to the “off” position.

Step 2: Remove the Existing Fixture

To install your new bathroom lighting, you will need to first remove the existing fixture. To do this, start by removing the bulb and unscrewing the mounting bracket. Next, disconnect the wire connectors and remove the mounting plate. With all these components removed, you should now be able to easily lift off the existing fixture.

Step 3: Install Mounting Bracket

The next step is to install the new mounting bracket. First, secure the new bracket to the junction box using screws. Next, install the new bathroom light fixture by attaching it to the new mounting bracket. Finally, connect the wires from the junction box to the new fixture and turn on the power.

Step 4: Reconnect Wiring

In step four, you will reconnect the wiring to your new bathroom lighting. First, make sure that the bare ground wire is properly connected to the grounding screw. Next, connect the black wire to the brass screw, and the white wire to the silver screw. Be sure to twist the wire clockwise when making these connections. Finally, use a wire nut to secure both wires together. Make sure that you twist the wire clockwise when doing this, as well.

Step 5: Attach Fixture

The next step is to attach the new fixture to the mounting bracket. Make sure that the wattage of the bulb is compatible with the new fixture. Once you have attached the new fixture, install the bathroom lighting by screwing in the new bulb. Next, connect the wires and turn on the power.

Step 6: Turn on the Power

The final step is to turn on the power. Without this step, you will not be able to test out your new installation.
