Cool Down This Summer With An AC Tune-Up

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Summer is finally here and we couldn’t be happier! Nothing beats the summer sun in the Sunshine State, but unfortunately, it has one major drawback. The heat. The best way to ensure you still get to have the best summer ever is to make sure that your AC is in excellent working condition with an AC tune-up!

AC Tune-Up for What?

You may wonder why you need an AC tune-up. It may sound unnecessary and like just another expense, right? WRONG! AC tune-ups or AC maintenance are one of the most important things you can do in your home, especially if you live in the Sunshine State. You know exactly how hot it gets and when the heat hits, all you want to do is relax in the comfort of your cool home.

Why the fuss, my AC works fine all the time? That’s the thing. You know your AC is reliable but the problem begins when it’s suddenly stops working. By then you may find yourself in the middle of summer without AC and having to pay for AC repairs or replacement. Regularly scheduled AC maintenance means not only will your unit’s lifespan be extended but you’ll actually save money by not having to replace the entire unit.

What Happens During A Tune-Up?

During an AC tune-up, a licensed AC technician will assess and check your unit. A variety of tests and checks are completed on the unit such as testing and inspecting the contactor and capacitors along with flushing the drain line. Your technician will also be able to identify if there are any repairs that need to be done so that you are able to take care of it before it comes a major issue. The following things must be done during an AC tune-up:

  • Condenser Coil Cleanliness Check

There will inevitably be a build-up of debris on your condenser coils, especially if your unit is always on. Unfortunately, the build-up of particulate debris will block cool air from entering your home. Your unit won’t be as efficient and you will end up cranking up the AC to get the same levels of cool air as before. This means you’re putting a greater strain on your AC unit and you’re increasing your utility bill at the same time.

  • Wiring Checks

If there are any faults with your electrical wiring or connectivity between your circuit breaker and your unit, your AC may just stop working completely! Make sure your technician checks to ensure that all wired connections are in order.

  • Refrigerant Check

The refrigerant levels need to be checked to ensure that your AC unit will continue to perform as it should. A simple check on the refrigerant levels will also reveal if there are any issues with the pipes, which may lead to leaks.

  • Condenser and Capacitor Checks

Without a working capacitor, there is no working AC. Your technician will need to check that your capacitor is still in good working condition and is not faulty. If you attempt to use your AC when the capacitor is faulty, you will damage the unit’s motor. This will lead to extensive repairs or possibly a replacement. Your condenser will get checked at the same time. Similar to the capacitor, without it – nothing in your unit will work.
