Differences Between Pipe Relining and Pipe Replacement

pipe relining
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Plumbing pipes and even underground drainpipes are silent heroes in our lives. We use them every day at home and work and the only time we remember their importance is when something goes wrong.

Without regular preventative drain and sewer maintenance, things are bound to go wrong and because they’re hidden behind walls or buried underground, it makes access difficult. However a professional plumbing company will be able to find the source of your problem and may suggest pipe relining or pipe replacement if it’s required.

What is Pipe Relining?

Thanks to modern advancements it’s easier to access broken or leaky plumbing pipes through pre-existing entry points. This allows plumbing professionals or rooter technicians to fix the damaged pipes from the inside which minimizes the damage to the property.

Professional rooter technicians or licensed plumbers will use a special inflatable tube to reline a broken pipe. This tube has resin inside of it and is inserted via the existing entry point. Once inflated it will seal off all cracks from the inside.

Pipe relining is a relatively cost-effective method to repair broken plumbing pipes. No extra labor is required to dig up your pipes and then rebury them once they’ve been fixed.

What Is Pipe Replacement?

When the damage to your pipes is severe and pipe relining is not an option then you may need to consider pipe replacement.

Various things can affect the lifespan and structural integrity of your plumbing pipes. The materials used for your pipes, corrosion & deterioration over time, and even tree roots, all of which can cause irreparable damage to your pipes.

How Do I Decide Between Relining Or Replacement?

You may find yourself wondering if you should keep relining your damaged pipes or replace them. Both relining and replacement come with their own advantages and disadvantages. Pipe relining won’t work in every situation. If the pipes are heavily damaged, then you will need to replace them. But, before you decide on one option or the other, it’s best to get some professional advice.

Whether you decide on relining or replacement – don’t make an uninformed choice.
