Beat the Upcoming Price Increase!
Back in early March, the Federal Government and the President of these United States decided to levy significant tariffs on imported aluminum and steel coming from certain countries. These tariffs are an additional 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum. Why do I care you ask?
Two of the main components in any air conditioning system are steel and aluminum. Almost all manufacturers have changed over the last few years to a model that features coils for the indoor and outdoor units that are 100% aluminum. We typically avoid equipment manufacturers that assemble their products outside of the country, however all the equipment companies do rely heavily on imports of steel and aluminum.
I have received memos from three different manufacturers that around mid July to early August we should expect a price increase of all equipment ranging from 12-20%. Air conditioning pricing typically changes only once a year in early January and our price increases are based on normal inflation. Every year we see equipment pricing go up 2-3% which is nothing compared to what we are going to see later this year.
Consider for a moment, if you will, the pricing of an air conditioning system now will range from $4,500-$10,000 depending on features, benefits, the efficiency of the equipment and the brand. That means we are looking at price increases ranging from $500-$2,000 per unit. If the air conditioner in your home is more than ten years old or if you are thinking of changing it I would recommend acting now for significant savings. As with any business, we will have no choice but to pass along these price increases once they are effective.
That is all, please carry on.
