Why You Should Hire a Licensed Plumber for Your Clogged Drain

Licensed Plumber
Reading Time: 2 minutes

If you asked any licensed plumber how best to unclog a drain they would tell you it is absolutely not by using liquid drain cleaners! The caustic chemicals frequently get trapped in pipes and start to erode them, causing more damage. In addition to this, these chemicals can find their way into groundwater and thus can potentially pollute drinking water. The best way to unclog a drain is with a rooter. Whether or not tree roots have found their way into your homes’ plumbing, effectively reaching blockages cannot always be done simply with liquid drain cleaner or a plunger. Sometimes, there are multiple blockages at various points within a pipe, and while you may be able to move some blockages on your own, chances are you won’t get them all. Over time multiple small blockages can create one massive, seriously problematic blockage, which could even burst your pipes. The best way to unclog a drain is to call a licensed plumber, who can help to prevent blockages once and for all.

What causes clogged drains?
Clogged drains can be caused by a number of things, but by far the most difficult blockage to successfully remove is caused by tree roots growing into your pipes. When this happens the only solution is to call a licensed plumber, who will bring a long ‘snake’ or rooter to unblock the pipe. The rooter works by making its way deep into your plumbing to locate and remove any blockages. Other causes of blocked drains usually come from the kitchen; fat or oil that is rinsed off dinner plates, or any leftover food which goes down the drain, can congeal and stick to the side of pipes. Over time, this small blockage will grow as it accumulates more material, and so it isn’t recommended to dispose of any food materials into your plumbing. Drains may also be blocked by a single flush of too much toilet paper, but this can usually be solved with a plunger and some elbow grease!

But it’s just a small blockage!
One of the biggest causes of damage to household plumbing is a clogged drain. Apart from having the sink and shower drain slowly, water is left to sit for too long in your pipes and can cause them to rust more quickly. Many people will either ignore small blockages at first, waiting for them to become more inconvenient before calling a plumber, or try to unclog them using chemicals or a plunger. As mentioned earlier, liquid drain cleaners can cause more harm than good, and there have been some nasty incidents of chemicals bursting back out of the sink or drain, which can be seriously dangerous. A licensed plumber can solve all of your drainage problems so you don’t have to put yourself in danger.

What is a rooter?
A rooter or ‘snake’ is a plumbers’ most useful contraption! It is designed to crawl down your pipes and drill into any blockages, which are then washed away or sometimes brought out by the rooter. It is the only way to make sure your pipes are completely unclogged, and it can save you a lot of time and money in the long run. By giving us a call we will send a licensed plumber to solve your drainage problems once and for all, and if you call today you can cash in on our $99 main sewer line cleaning special!
