Small Plumbing Repairs Still Require A Professional

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As a homeowner, trying to tackle a plumbing repair job is risky business. Perhaps you get a sudden burst of inspiration and confidence from watching a DIY (Do It Yourself) show or looking at the wide selection of plumbing tools at your DIY store. But trying to solve a plumbing issue yourself is probably not going to go according to plan. We recommend that you do not underestimate any sort of plumbing repair that needs to be done – no matter how small or simple the job may seem to you. There is too much at risk. At the end of the day, testing out some DIY tips might not be worth it and could even leave you with more of a problem.

What Can Go Wrong With A Plumbing DIY?

As always, it is best to contact a certified professional plumber to receive the best residential and commercial plumbing services. Here are some reasons why you should leave all plumbing repairs to the professionals like Art Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electric.

  • Wrong Diagnosis
To the untrained eye, a plumbing issue such as a pipe leak could look like a simple fix, such as tightening a connection or fitting. But the real cause of the leak could be more complicated and intricate. A plumber would be able to pick up on the real reason for the pesky leak and fix more than just the symptom. Often, the root of the problem is hidden away and in need of expert attention. As a homeowner, you might be confident of the cause of your plumbing problem. But, for anyone other than a plumber, it is surprisingly difficult to identify what needs to be repaired and how this needs to be done. Misdiagnosis is both costly and dangerous. The real problem could carry on and then reappear worse than it was initially.
  • Wrong Tools
Your toolbox might be well-stocked and worth boasting about to your friends and family. But, unfortunately, it would pale in comparison to the extensive kit of any professional plumber. Some fixtures require specific tools of specific sizes. Without professional knowledge, it is difficult to figure out exactly what you need to use for certain plumbing repairs. The range of tools and equipment can be daunting to the average homeowner.
  • Wrong Technique
A plumber will be trained to know what to do to fix your repair and how to do it. They will also be knowledgeable on your local building code, and health & safety regulations. You may think you are able to attempt a small DIY plumbing repair but you don’t know that your repair is aligned with your local building codes. When attempting to fix your plumbing problem you may accidentally cause a burst pipe or, even worse, create electrical problems which can be incredibly dangerous.
  • More Problems in the Future
Even if your DIY job seems to have been done right, there is no guarantee that whatever was faulty has been properly repaired. The problem could arise again, or it could become even worse. This would mean additional repairs and costs.

As always, it is best to contact a professional to help you with any plumbing repairs, no matter how small the problem might seem. We don’t advise anyone other than a licensed plumber to do any sort of plumbing work, especially when sewerage or drinking water systems are involved. All your plumbing needs are safe in the knowledgeable and trusted hands of Art Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electric.
