When you suddenly find yourself in need of a plumbing company, thumbing through the yellow pages or checking online can be overwhelming. What should you be looking for in plumbing companies? How do you know if you are calling a reputable plumbing company who will ensure the repairs you need are done correctly?

There are definitely a few things to look for when choosing from all of the available plumbing companies. Here is a list of some things to check out before a plumbing company does any work at your home.

1 – Ensure that you choose a plumbing company that is licensed by the state. In Florida, plumbing licenses must be held by both the contractor and an individual plumber. When in doubt, ask to see the state license, as every working plumber in Florida should be able to provide one.

2 – Ask the plumbing companies you are looking at how they establish pricing. Different companies establish their pricing differently. Some may charge low hourly rates, but have additional charges, such as equipment fees when specific tools or trucks are needed on the job. This can make the cost greater than originally anticipated. Some companies’ pricing will be based on the time it takes to complete the job, while other companies will factor in the number and quality of the fixtures used. There could be higher charges when you need a plumbing company for an emergency repair, or if you need help after hours or on the weekend. Pricing may vary from plumbing company to plumbing company, so it is smart to ask the company you are researching about pricing. This way you can make sure you are comfortable with the way the bill will shape up.

3 – You should also ask the plumbing companies you are considering using about the types and quality of fixtures, pipes and equipment that are going to be installed. Make sure they are using quality that you are comfortable with, and make sure that the fixtures are comparable with another company’s fixtures before comparing estimates between plumbing companies.

4 – Ask the plumbing companies you are considering hiring if there is a warranty on the parts and/or service. The material may be covered by warranty for longer than the service is, but most plumbing companies will also put a warranty on their labor as well.

5 – Finally, when researching plumbing companies, it is a good idea to see if the companies in question are members of any trade organizations. It is a good rule of thumb to consider that companies who are members of these types of organizations are usually on top of any recent plumbing regulation and code updates or changes.

When looking for plumbing companies to do a repair, there are all types to choose from. There are the good ones. The bad ones. And the ugly ones. Do your research and pick a plumbing company that you are comfortable with before the job is started.
